Huy Tran.

I build for the web and mobile, with a little hardware on the side.

About

I studied Computer Engineering at UMass Amherst — architecture, operating systems, security, networking, algorithms.

Today, I'm a software developer at The Training Associates, working on TTA Connect, developing internal tools and helping out other departments.

№ 01

S.W.A.N.

Secure Wireless Authentication Network — hands-free access control replacing RFID keycards.

Role
Embedded systems & firmware, hardware coordination
Period
Sept 2024 — May 2025
Stack
C++ · DWM3000 (UWB) · ESP32 · KiCad · AES-128

Problem

RFID keycards are cheap, ubiquitous, and trivially cloneable. We wanted hands-free entry with cryptographic identity, on a budget a senior design team could actually afford.

Approach

Ultra-Wideband distance measurement on custom PCBs — ESP32 paired with Qorvo DWM3000 modules, AES-128 over the channel, firmware in C++. I worked across hardware and firmware: schematic design in KiCad, assembly, and the integration testing that no one wants to do.

Outcome

A working tag-and-anchor system. Two custom boards from schematic to silkscreen.

TTA Connect

A platform matching organizations with L&D contractors. React on the front, .NET 8 on the back.

Role
Junior Software Developer
Period
July 2025 — Present
Stack
React · C# / .NET 8 · ASP.NET Core · Entity Framework · SQL Server · Azure Blob · Twilio

What I do here

I ship React features and build the ASP.NET Core (.NET 8) endpoints behind them — SQL Server stored procedures with CTEs, table-valued parameters, and JSON aggregation, plus API rate limiting.

Keeping the lights on

When the testing servers misbehave, I debug them. Hardened asset access via short-lived Azure Blob SAS tokens so partner files aren’t indefinitely public. Built an internal WinForms tool with Entity Framework and DevExpress that cut a manual data workflow by 42%.

Outcome

Earlier feature work cut average client–contractor hiring time by 20%.

Tech News, distilled

A cross-platform mobile reader for tech news. No account. No newsletter to your inbox.

Role
Solo — mobile & backend
Period
May — Aug 2025
Stack
React Native · Expo · TypeScript · Node.js · Express · C# · PostgreSQL · SQLite
Source

Problem

I was tired of inbox-flooding tech newsletters. I wanted to read what I wanted, when I wanted, on my phone, without an account.

Approach

Genre-based filtering, offline reading via SQLite, curated onboarding so a new user has something to read in five seconds. Backend aggregates from NewsAPI with deduplication.

Experience

  1. 2025—

    Junior Software Developer

The Training Associates · Marlborough, MA

Shipping React features and .NET 8 endpoints on TTA Connect. Debugged deployment issues for the testing servers. Hardened Azure Blob access via SAS tokens.

  2. 2024—25

Software Engineer Intern · Full Stack

General Dynamics Mission Systems · Dedham, MA

Shipped 13 tickets to production on an internal OpenCVE fork. Architected a multi-stage sync into air-gapped environments — redirecting network I/O to local file ops. Automated GitLab CI/CD pipelines.

  3. 2024

    Software Engineer Intern · DevOps

General Dynamics Mission Systems · Dedham, MA · truMLS

Refactored Ansible CI/CD pipelines — modularized components, halved lines of code, lowered memory. Deployed custom Linux environments on AWS EC2.

  4. 2021—25

    B.S. Computer Engineering

University of Massachusetts Amherst · 3.63 GPA

    Architecture, OS, security, networking, algorithms.
